M & Co, Silver Street, Trowbridge, 21 Sept -15 Oct 2023

Trowbridge was the fifth venue in Social Scaffolding's 6-venue, Arts Council-funded tour in the South West of England between April and November 2023. in 2022, before the tour, we faciliated two pilot exhibitions in Taunton and at the Emerge Showcase at Bath Spa University in Bath. We also exhibited at two other Emerge Showcases in 2023. Please visit the Social Scaffolding website for full details. Many thanks to the other Social Scaffolding artists, Alyson Minkley and Juliet Duckworth, and to the Emerge community for all their support throughout.

Here's a video of just a few of the many, many delightful connections and conversations I had as part of my Social knitwork in Trowbridge. It was utterly wonderful! Thank you to everyone who visited, made something to add ton the installation and joined the conversation.

Visitors were invited to take some time to explore the site responsive installation, to chill and also to make something to add to the installation. Some people added strips of cloth, knitting, crochet or pompoms. All materials were provided.

Research shows that making is good for you; making with others can amplify the benefits and making side by side sometimes prompts surprisingly in- depth conversation and connection. Social knitwork provides a strategy for improving mental health and building community. This video is a snapshot of the wonderful interactions and connections made at Social knitwork in an empty shop in Trowbridge.

(Please visit the Social knitwork, Trowbridge, Installation page for documentation about the site-responsive installation)
