Social knitwork installation at Social Scaffolding, The Designer Outlet Centre, Swindon, 11-26 November 2023
Swindon was the final venue in Social Scaffolding's 6-venue, Arts Council-funded tour in the South West of England between April and November 2023. in 2022, before the tour, we faciliated two pilot exhibitions in Taunton and at the Emerge Showcase at Bath Spa University in Bath. We also exhibited at two other Emerge Showcases in 2023. Please visit the Social Scaffolding website for full details. The space allocated to Social knitwork in Swindon was probably the most complex of all the sites we had toured, mostly because there was a fire exit in the space, so I had to avoid that. There was a space to the right of the exit with a mirror on the opposit wall and then four changing cubicles opposite, each with a full length mirror plus a mirror in the corridor. It was definitely the hardest space to photograph, but maybe it was also the most hidden.
I hung my three Parts of me 2021 sculptures, with chains, in the smaller three cubicles and made the larger cubicle at the end a chilling space by putting one of the red velvet cushions there. The space on the right of the exit was also a chiling space, with another cushion and a chair.
